this is the typical piece that could have been written by policy makers of the Roman Empire (Eastern, at that point already) as they willingly sacrifice their previous homeland (Western Europe) to barbarians they’ve associated with to create “great prosperity”. “Rome will keep it’s civilizing role in the world, we’re just moving the capital a little East because of its obvious advantages over Rome proper”.
